I still remember the day I received that one email from Maya that read something like this…. “I am enamored with your work….” that left a smile on my face for at least the next 3 months as we were warming up to the wedding season (and it still warms my heart thinking about it).

Plus that cemented the fact that I really wanted to work with both both Steve and Maya on their special day.  You guys also rocked this one!

Disclaimer: 100% film sessions (Fuji Reala 100 & Fuji 400H) + a combination of Contax 645 and Pentax 67ii goodness all round (Geeky talk)… “we love film!!”

There is a special place in our hearts for Laura and Jonathan.  It wasn’t too long ago in fact it was last year, we were invited to be part of Laura’s brothers wedding of Dave and Steph.  So when Laura called us about her own wedding we were seriously over the moon to say the least.

Here is a little snapshot of another beautiful couple that we have been able to create some memories for.  Just a warning…. Kodak Portra looks amazing on a coolish weather given it’s the last few days of winter here in Australia.

I hope you guys have enjoyed our recent engagement shoots as of late and look forward to sharing some more work soon!

You either grew up in an “Analog” world or a “Digital” world when it comes to the photography.  I grew up in an “Analog” world however I adopted Digital Photography way back in 2003 in my trip to San Francisco with my first digital camera purchase.  My first Digital camera was a Sony DSC707 – a 5 megapixel monster with a gorgeous Zeiss lens.  Mind you I had no idea of what a Zeiss lens did for me back then.  Fast forward seven years and the digital photography has evolved through more megapixels, more features and ground breaking advancements in shooting high ISO with useable images.  I love the advancement of the digital age however there is just something about film that draws me back to its imperfections, it’s rawness, it’s tones and the beautiful imagery it continues to deliver.

So after much deliberation, learning and speaking to other film shooters world wide it has come down to these simple things on why we still love film photography (or analog for the purist).

  • Colour palette from Film is seriously unbeatable.  There are more and more photographers trying to emulate the film look by using presets that adds, grain, colour tones that resemble the type of emulsion one is trying to get that “look”, no doubt I was one of them.  Short term satisfaction from the presets were satisfying to a degree, however it did lack a few things “soul” & “warmth”.
  • The latitude of film especially in the highlights or bright areas are not blown out as it would in a digital capture.
  • Skin tones is the other winner in film.  When you shoot mostly people, couples and families, skin tones are pretty critical.  The warmth in the skin tones from film in my personal experience is unbelievable and it’s a proven formula today amongst the many who continue to shoot film.
  • I receive my developed images as High Resolution JPEGS like any other digital image, however the difference in the final product is very pleasing especially when it comes to print.  The whole film development process has not changed.  They way it is now handled after development has.  What you take away to print is the JPEG’s files and not the negatives.  Scanning is now a critical part of the Film development process and thankfully we have found a Local pro lab that can satisfy our needs.  And more importantly we will continue to support our local businesses where we can.
  • The final image is more than magical, there is depth, there is character it delivers for timeless images removing any current fads in Photoshop presets or actions.
  • We know what the special sauce is when it comes down to awesome photography that is why we are incorporating it into our service offer.

The results have been amazing, feel free to check out our first 100% film sessions!  Not all creative professionals are the same, and not all will be equal when it comes to the final results.  The current trend is the film look,  even digital shooters are emulating it with various presets.  Why?  because film is proven to be good.  So if you’ve booked your wedding with us it’s all part of the package.  The best thing is you still receive your high resolution JPEG’s as you would normally do with our digital photography and typically you won’t know when we are shooting digital or film.  The magic is there and we already know it so that is why I am so passionate in sharing this magic and providing the best and continue to master our craft.

Irrespective of what medium we choose to use to use, we will deliver.

Our next wedding venue was at Overnewton Castle….. what an amazing venue & location.  So much fun shooting Jonathan and Kath’s wedding.  Fujifilm 400h used and Contax 645 Medium Format.

Our last wedding for 2012 took Tom and I over to Hobart in Tasmania.  For me this was no ordinary wedding as I remember Jenny as a 4-year-old brat way back when our family lived in Wangaratta – a provincial township in country Victoria.  You see Jenny is my dear cousin and we did grow up together in a short space of time til Jenny and her family decided to move and live in Gosford in NSW.  It was an absolute honour to not only see Jenny get married to an incredible man and that’s none other than Andrew.   Gorgeous wedding, awesome location and best of all I finally got to see my little cousin get married and also had having the sheer honour to capture the wedding day is just too much awesomeness all in one day in November!  Our first wedding shooting in digital and Fuji 400h Film in Medium Format goodness and the results were incredible!  I loved the concept of an all “Bro” bridal party….. so cool.

Once again Jenny and Andrew, congratulations to the both of you on a really chilled out and relaxed wedding!

Thank you for viewing and a massive start to our 2013 blogging year!  Happy 2013 to everyone!

Note: Please feel free to share the blog with ALL your family and friends!

I’ve always have great admiration for musicians, check out the boys from “Empire of Dirt” putting in the hard yards over 5 long days recording their sounds.  Music photography was something I’ve always wanted to shoot so it was great to live that experience.  Good equipment and a keen eye certainly helped in creating this awesome collection.  Checkout Empire of Dirt’s sounds via soundcloud and hit them up on Facebook to find when their next gig will be.  You just never know….. we may come back with more of Empire of Dirt in the near future…. Take it away boys!

Rhonda & Jim’s little beachside wedding was not only oozing with love and happiness, it was their dream wedding.  We loved the handmade fans, the little messages in the bottle the handmade frames – the warmth of this wedding will surely be in our memories for a long time to come.  The venue was at “The Heads” down at Barwon Heads…. an amazing venue, amazing staff and thank you kind weather for giving us a nice dry afternoon.  Congrats Rhonda & Jim, another “Star” couple that we have enjoyed working with!
